Professional Development & Workshops

I am passionate about designing and facilitating transformative professional learning opportunities that promote deep learning (and unlearning!) through reflection and collaboration. As an experienced workshop leader, trainer, and conference presenter, I have designed and delivered professional development sessions on a range of topics, including:

  • Language development across the curriculum
  • Multilingual pedagogies and translanguaging
  • Whole-school approaches to multilingualism
  • English as an additional language (EAL)
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion in international schools
  • Concept-based approaches to language acquisition
  • Culturally responsive pedagogies
  • Intercultural understanding and international-mindedness
  • Inclusive language policy

In my workshops and professional learning sessions, I aim to bridge research and practice to bring insights from research to the realities of the classroom. I’m studying part-time for a Doctorate in Education, researching multilingualism and interculturality in international schools. At the same time, my work is rooted in my own experiences as a classroom teacher and school leader, most notably leading multilingualism and EAL (leading my school to become the first in Asia to achieve accredited Language Friendly School status and leading my school to achieve accreditation with the Bell Foundation Language for Results for “exceptional EAL provision”).

My facilitation style is supportive, collaborative, inquiry-based, and focused on transfer of learning. In how I approach facilitation, I strive to have a “tough mind and tender heart” (Martin Luther King) and to “be ruthless with systems but kind to people”.

Some examples of my PD work:

I am a certified Workshop Leader with International Baccalaureate and have facilitated a range of virtual and in-person workshops for educators and leaders from around Asia Pacific and beyond. I have facilitated numerous IB workshops, including DP English B (Cat 2), DP Extended Essay (Cat 2), DP Theory of Knowledge (Cat 1), CP Language & Cultural Studies (Cat 2, Cat 3).

I am a certified trainer with Lexis Education and have delivered the Teaching in English in Multilingual Classrooms (TEMC) (formerly known as Teaching ESL Students in Mainstream Classrooms; TESMC) to over 100 teachers.

I was an Extended Session (3-hr deep-dive workshop) at Learning2 Asia in 2024:

I was Leadership Project Lead for Education in Motion’s award-winning Accelerate middle leadership development programme. I led a team to re-design the programme’s action research project as a leadership development project.

I have collaborated with various organizations. For example, I was involved in panel discussions for International Schools Network, designed and delivered an online workshop for Toddle, was part of a webinar with the Bell Foundation, and was interviewed on Twinkl’s Talking their Language podcast.

I have a number of certifications that support my work in designing and facilitating professional development, teacher training, adult learning, coaching, etc., including the Instructional Leadership Certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education and the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) in Leading Teacher Development (UK Department for Education).
